Trump Backs Tinubu on Security Fight

United States President Donald Trump has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as his decisive leadership in Nigeria, particularly in addressing the country’s security challenges.

In a letter to President Tinubu, Trump commended the Nigerian leader’s determination to confront issues affecting the nation, especially the violence targeting Christian communities.
“It is a true honour to stand with you in the fight against these terrorists and to make the Federal Republic of Nigeria stronger and more prosperous,” Trump stated in the letter.
The relationship between Nigeria and the United States has continued to strengthen in recent times, with both countries deepening cooperation in critical areas, particularly security. In November last year, Presidents Trump and Tinubu agreed to establish a Joint Working Group, co-chaired by the National Security Advisers of both countries, to enhance collaboration through intelligence sharing, training, and joint operations aimed at combating terrorism.
One of the major outcomes of the partnership was the coordinated operation on May 16 against ISIS hideouts in the Lake Chad region, which resulted in the elimination of the group’s top leader, Abubakar Al-Minoki, along with several of his lieutenants.
Further reinforcing the growing partnership, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Frank Garcia, visited Abuja last week, where he met with senior Nigerian government officials and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Nigeria in security and other areas of mutual interest.
