Youths Dominate as INEC Nears 3 Million New Voter Registrations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 2,970,957 Nigerians have successfully completed both online and physical registration under the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise as of July 17, 2026.

The Commission said young Nigerians and women continue to drive the registration process, with youths accounting for over two-thirds of all new registrants.
According to the latest CVR update, women recorded 1,561,765 registrations, representing 52.57 percent of the total, while 1,409,192 men registered, making up 47.43 percent. The figures indicate that women currently outnumber male registrants by more than 152,000.
The age distribution shows that Nigerians between 18 and 34 years recorded the highest number of registrations with 2,003,183 voters, representing 67.43 percent of the total. Those aged between 35 and 49 accounted for 645,651 registrations (21.73 percent), while 294,443 people aged 50 to 69 registered, representing 9.91 percent. Only 27,680 persons aged 70 years and above completed registration, accounting for 0.93 percent.
INEC described the figures as provisional, noting that they remain subject to claims, objections and verification through the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS). The Commission urged eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered to do so through its official CVR portals, adding that registration remains suspended in Osun State due to the forthcoming governorship election in line with the Electoral Act 2022.
