2027: APC Group Appeals to Tinubu for Cabinet Reshuffle Says ministers undermining government should be removed

A prominent support group within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has added its voice to growing calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reshuffle his cabinet, with a view to removing ministers alleged to be undermining his administration.
The group, APC League of Democrats, made this known in a statement signed on Monday by its National Coordinator, Hon.

Babajide Oyewole, and the Secretary, Chief Rowland Okonkwo, and made available to journalists in Abuja. The group described the proposed cabinet reshuffle as long overdue and called for the outright removal of certain ministers.
According to the statement, President Tinubu should not delay any further in undertaking what it termed an urgent exercise, warning that continued delay could inflict more damage on the administration and negatively affect the APC’s prospects in the 2027 general elections.
The group said it was made up of experienced politicians capable of identifying when appointees were allegedly working against the objectives and programmes of the government they were appointed to serve. It recalled that similar developments occurred during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, adding that early warnings at the time were ignored.
In its statement, the APC League of Democrats specifically mentioned the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, as ministers who should be relieved of their duties without delay.
The group, however, noted that ministers it described as performing well, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; and the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, could be retained in their current positions. It added that while some ministers should be redeployed to enhance efficiency and service delivery, the two finance ministers must be removed in the interest of the party and national stability.
The statement further outlined what it described as shortcomings on the part of the finance ministers, particularly their alleged failure to comply with presidential directives aimed at resolving the prolonged dispute between the Federal Government and indigenous contractors.
According to the group, the disagreement could have been avoided, noting that President Tinubu had publicly directed that indigenous contractors owed a cumulative sum of about N4 trillion since 2024 be paid.
It argued that such alleged defiance amounted to sabotage of the President’s efforts to revitalise the economy and had also cast Nigeria in a negative light internationally.
The group stated that protests against the government, especially those linked to economic grievances, had the potential to damage the country’s image and discourage potential foreign investors. It added that investors were unlikely to commit funds to an economy characterised by stagnation and poor circulation of funds.
The statement further recalled that the Association of Indigenous Contractors had on several occasions blocked the entrance of the Federal Ministry of Finance Complex. It also referenced reports that about 1,000 civil society organisations, some with international affiliations, had endorsed the ongoing protests and called on the President to remove the finance ministers to avert national embarrassment.
In addition, the group cited reports that hundreds of young lawyers recently barricaded the finance ministry in support of the protesting contractors, accusing the Minister of State for Finance of selective payments to allies and associates. It called for a thorough investigation into the allegations while reiterating that the President should act swiftly, particularly by removing underperforming ministers.
The APC League of Democrats noted that beyond the hardship and embarrassment faced by local contractors—many of whom are reportedly battling bankruptcy due to loans obtained to execute federal projects—the broader economy was also suffering, with reduced currency circulation affecting daily life across the country.
The group expressed concern that the situation could undermine the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections, warning that it would not allow a repeat of past political setbacks. It urged President Tinubu to heed what it described as patriotic calls and take decisive action before it becomes too late.
It would be recalled that the Association of Indigenous Contractors of Nigeria commenced a sustained protest about two weeks ago, blocking the main entrance of the Federal Ministry of Finance. The action reportedly prevented the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Uzoka-Anite, from accessing her office.
The contractors are protesting the alleged non-payment of about N4 trillion for projects already executed and captured in the 2024 budget, many of which have since been commissioned by the Federal Government.
Despite interventions by the National Assembly and President Tinubu, who reportedly directed that the outstanding payments be settled, the contractors have continued their protest at the finance ministry, accusing the ministers of non-payment and selective disbursement of funds.
