There was confusion in Calabar, Cross River State, when a Nigerian Police Inspector Stephen Enang was said to have collapsed and died after learning that he missed out on a significant bet involving the Arsenal vs Real-Madrid UEFA Champions League match.

Arsenal triumphed 3-0 over the Spanish giants on Tuesday night, leaving Enang devastated, as he would have won a substantial sum if his prediction had come true.

Enang, a native of Ekori in Yakurr Local Government Area, was stationed at the Akim Police Division along IBB Way, Calabar.

According to reports, Irene Ugbo, spokesperson for the Cross River Police Command, declined to comment despite several attempts to reach her.

An eye witness stated that “Enang slumped in his seat while watching the match. He was rushed to the Police Hospital in Akim, where medical personnel tried to revive him, but he was declared dead.”

Sources who expressed shock over the incident described Enang as a soft-spoken, football-loving man and a passionate Arsenal fan.

The incident has left officers and personnel at the Cross River Police Command deeply confused and unsettled.
