As Nigeria embarks on a new phase of its democratic journey, the nation finds itself at a pivotal moment once again. This time, the challenge lies not in the resilience of its institutions, but in the return of familiar political figures who present themselves as saviors. The media is filled with discussions about coalitions and political comebacks, as those responsible for past failures reappear with a new message of hope. However, the Nigerian populace has grown more discerning; the memories of past betrayals linger, and the wounds run deep.
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness…” — Isaiah 5:20
The Fault Lines of Our Democracy
For over forty years, various political figures in Nigeria, now coming together under the idea of redemption, have had ample opportunities to transform the country’s political landscape. Throughout their lengthy careers, they have held important ministerial roles, governed several states, led key committees, and significantly influenced the nation’s economic policies.
Citizens have inherited a troubling legacy from their leaders, characterized by deteriorating infrastructure that fails to meet essential needs, a treasury that has been systematically exploited, and deep-rooted institutional decay that threatens effective governance. This failure to bring about positive change is not attributed to a lack of opportunity, but rather to a deliberate and calculated misuse of the power granted to them. This leadership legacy prompts urgent questions regarding accountability and the true commitment to serving the public good.
“The leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.” — Isaiah 9:16
In a surprising turn that challenges both reason and humility, they gather beneath coalition banners, believing that their shared disillusionment can somehow spark real change. But what they’re pushing for isn’t reform; it’s a desperate re-entry—a bid to reclaim their lost influence and authority, not for the sake of service, but to reassert their dominance.
Who Will You Trust—The Thief or the Watchman?
The people of Nigeria have reached a breaking point in their patience and tolerance. It is essential to understand the distinction between true repentance and mere manipulation. When an individual, particularly a public figure or leader, has been caught repeatedly engaging in deceitful practices—stealing from the people they are meant to serve and eroding the faith the citizens placed in them—simply asking for another opportunity is insufficient without facing consequences for their actions.
Genuine trust, much like the foundation of a democracy, is something that must be painstakingly earned over time. It cannot be demanded under false pretenses, nor can it be obtained through insidious propaganda or superficial alliances crafted for expediency. The call for accountability is not just a formality; it is a necessity for rebuilding the social contract between leaders and the led, ensuring that the future is free from the shadows of past betrayals.
“When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed forever.” — Psalm 92:7
True leadership is not measured by how loudly one calls for rescue; it is demonstrated through unwavering consistency, accountability, and authentic transformation. The real question is not about who runs the loudest campaign—it’s about who possesses the cleanest hands.
Tinubu and the Test of Legacy
The text highlights the imperfections of leaders while posing a significant challenge to the public: to identify any member of the current coalition who has provided sustained and transformational leadership for Nigeria’s benefit. It notes that many individuals now seeking to present themselves as morally superior were previously in influential roles during a time when the nation’s future was compromised for personal gain. The conclusion suggests that the end of their tenure was not an untimely event but a matter of divine intervention, implying that their actions warranted such a conclusion.
“The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.” — Psalm 33:10
The discussions surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s legacy are complex and multifaceted, reflecting a wide range of opinions and perspectives. However, it is undeniable that he has left a significant mark on the evolving democratic landscape of Nigeria. Throughout his tenure, Tinubu has navigated a challenging political environment characterized by strong opposition, public scrutiny, and intense pressure from various stakeholders. Despite these challenges, he has demonstrated remarkable resilience and strategic leadership.
Tinubu’s policies and decisions have sparked considerable debate, prompting individuals and political analysts alike to critically examine the implications of his governance. His approach to leadership has not only shaped the political discourse in Nigeria but has also encouraged a broader national introspection about democratic values, governance, and the future direction of the country. Whether one aligns with his policies or critiques them, it is clear that his influence continues to resonate deeply within the Nigerian political sphere, prompting discussions that are vital for the nation’s democratic continued development.
The People’s Verdict: No More Regression
In Nigeria, there is a notable shift in the spiritual climate, marked by a resounding cry of “God forbid!” This sentiment resonates not only in political discussions but also within prayer groups and prophetic circles. The growing rejection of governance reminiscent of a cabal is seen not as an act of rebellion but as a moment of revelation. A discerning segment of the Nigerian population is determined to resist the influence of recycled leaders and the empty promises that often accompany them.
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and again with the yoke of bondage.” — Galatians 5:1
Prophetic Insight: The Time of Exposure and Elevation
This season signifies a period of spiritual awakening, where falsehoods are being revealed, and true leaders are being established. Nigeria’s path to healing will not rely on charismatic manipulators but will emerge through individuals who have been forged in the crucible of adversity. The long-standing bonds of ethnic oppression and control will be dismantled, paving the way for a new vision of governance driven by those committed to justice and harmony.
“They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD…” — Isaiah 11:9
Reclaiming Democracy with Discernment
Democracy must not allow itself to be manipulated by the corrupt; it needs to be strengthened through civic intelligence, a strong understanding of history, and a commitment to moral clarity. Nigeria has a wealth of ideas, but it has been undermined by a lack of integrity. The path to improvement does not lie in merely rebranding past failures, but in uplifting new voices, promoting transparency, and insisting on accountability from anyone seeking leadership.

As Nigeria grapples with its political challenges, it’s vital for citizens to rise up, not just against injustices, but to be proactive in crafting solutions. This is a rallying cry for everyone to take a stand and push for real change, all while learning from the lessons of the past to steer clear of repeating old mistakes. Above all, there’s a heartfelt plea for divine guidance to protect the nation from those who may masquerade as heroes but harbor hidden agendas. Together, let’s forge a brighter future!
