Court Orders Convicted Internet Fraudster to Carry Placard for 30 Days

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, convicted and sentenced an internet fraudster, Alege Abdul-Lateef, to 30 days of community service.

Alege was arraigned by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a one-count charge of fraudulently impersonating foreign nationals.

In delivering judgment, Justice Dipeolu directed that the convict must carry a placard bearing the inscription: “Internet scam brings disgrace to myself and my family” for the duration of the sentence.

The court further ordered the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to supervise the exercise.
