The Federal Government, in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), has provided support to 352 farmers in Nasarawa State with improved seeds, fertilizers, and farm tools aimed at boosting food production and minimizing post-harvest losses.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony on Wednesday, the State Programme Coordinator of the Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP), Mrs. Eunice Adgizi, described the intervention as a significant step toward enhancing food security and improving rural livelihoods.

According to Adgizi, the initiative reflects the unwavering commitment of the Federal Government, Nasarawa State Government, and IFAD to empower farmers and strengthen efforts toward achieving food security.

“This initiative demonstrates the collective support of the Federal Government, IFAD, and the Nasarawa State Government in providing farmers with the essential resources to increase productivity,” she stated.

She explained that the beneficiaries were selected from five local government areas participating in the programme—Wamba, Lafia, Nasarawa, Karu, and Doma.

The distributed inputs included 9,600 kilograms of improved rice seeds, 1,408 bags of NPK fertilizer, 384 bags of urea fertilizer, 352 liters each of selective and non-selective herbicides, and 8,000 cassava stem cuttings.

In addition, nine tricycles were handed over to selected farmers to ease the transportation of produce, reduce post-harvest losses, and enhance access to markets.

Adgizi emphasized that the intervention was not only aimed at increasing crop yields but also at strengthening farmers’ resilience and ensuring a sustainable food surplus across the state.
