FG Unveils First National Strategy Against Organised Crime Next Month

The Federal Government will next month launch Nigeria’s first National Organised Crime Strategy as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against terrorism, cybercrime, kidnapping, human and drug trafficking, and illicit financial flows.

The National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Major General Adamu Laka, disclosed this in Abuja during the validation of the strategy document. He said the initiative would provide a coordinated national framework for preventing and combating organised crime across the country.
General Laka explained that the strategy would also enhance collaboration with the criminal justice sector, civil society organisations and international partners. He added that the document was developed by the Federal Government in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United States Government and other key stakeholders.
The Acting Director of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, Douglas Grane, reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s efforts against organised crime through stronger cooperation. Also speaking at the event, the UNODC representative, Cheikh Toure, described the strategy as a vital tool for tackling transnational organised crime and strengthening Nigeria’s national security.
