The National Chairman of the Conference of APC Publicity Secretaries, High Chief Otaru Douglas, has commended former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar Adamu for his ongoing engagement with party executives at the grassroots level—a move he described as a refreshing and democratic approach to stakeholder participation that has long been overlooked.

Speaking during a consultative meeting in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Sunday evening, Chief Otaru, who also serves as the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, said Adamu’s recent visits to local government areas to interact with party leaders would further strengthen the party, reinvigorate its structures, and enhance visibility across Nasarawa.

He also praised the leader of the party in the state, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, for fostering a climate of open democratic engagement despite growing political tensions.

“Although the ban on campaign activities is still in effect, aspirants are allowed to consult with stakeholders and party leaders in a civil and democratic manner,” Otaru noted.

He, however, cautioned against the rising trend of verbal and social media attacks on party leaders and aspirants by their supporters, warning that such actions, if not curbed, could harm the party’s unity and prospects.

“I appeal to our political gladiators and their supporters to exercise wisdom, decorum, and civility in addressing internal disagreements. We are members of one family, and our differences should be resolved internally if we truly want to succeed as a party,” Otaru urged.

He further advised members to refrain from making public statements that target individuals or party leaders, stressing that such actions were inappropriate at a time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abdullahi A. Sule are working tirelessly to strengthen the party and improve governance.

“It is improper for us, as the ruling party, to set a bad democratic precedent,” he cautioned, urging that all party-related cases pending in court or before security agencies be withdrawn to allow internal conflict resolution mechanisms to function effectively.

Meanwhile, former IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu has called on politicians to ensure that the electorate genuinely benefit from democracy.

Speaking at a consultative meeting with APC stakeholders and ward executives in Karu on Sunday, Adamu lamented the neglect of party executives, supporters, and other critical members after elections.

The former police chief, who is also a governorship aspirant under the APC in Nasarawa State, pledged to prioritize the welfare of party members, improve infrastructure, and ensure that the wellbeing of all stakeholders remains central to his agenda.

Adamu clarified that his visit to Karu was not a campaign rally but an opportunity to engage with the people and appeal for restraint as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
