Over one hundred Christian traditional and religious leaders from Northern Nigeria converged in Abuja to seek divine intervention amid the country’s escalating security challenges.

Addressing the gathering, Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Center, Paul Enenche, stated that Northern Christian stakeholders from the North Central and North East regions came together to pray and speak with one voice for lasting solutions to the insecurity affecting the region.

He noted that the security situation has prevented farmers from accessing their farmlands, exacerbating poverty in the area. Pastor Enenche urged citizens not to let the current insecurity diminish their love for the country and encouraged Christian traditional and religious leaders to remain united, assuring that the situation would eventually improve.

The program coordinator, Mr. Mark Lapdo, speaking on the theme of the meeting, “The Blood of the Martyrs: Seed of the Church,” emphasized that Christians would continue to promote religious harmony and peaceful coexistence. He also called on the government to take decisive action against those sponsoring banditry and other criminal activities undermining the nation’s stability, highlighting the negative impact on socio-economic activities and the hardship faced by citizens.

The convener of the event, and former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah Jang, noted that the insecurity has displaced many and increased the number of internally displaced persons in the region. Represented by Senator Simon Mwadkum, Jang stressed that terrorists and their sponsors operate with impunity, and peace would not return until justice is served. He urged the government to halt the killings and support those affected by insurgency, emphasizing that perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted.

Some Christian leaders, including Pastor Gideon Darwell, recounted personal tragedies, such as the murder of his wife and five children on Christmas Eve 2023 in Plateau State.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other prominent traditional and religious leaders in attendance agreed that all Nigerians, regardless of political or ethnic backgrounds, must remain united in combating insecurity across the country.
