FRSC Clears Obstruction Along Kotonkarfi–Lokoja Highway
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cleared two articulated vehicles that were obstructing the free flow of traffic along the Kotonkarfi–Murtala Bridge axis, Banda, on the Lokoja highway.
The Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, disclosed this while monitoring vehicular movement along the corridor. He said adequate personnel and logistics had been deployed to ensure effective traffic control.
According to him, the combined efforts of the FRSC, the Nigeria Police and other sister agencies had begun to yield visible results, as traffic, though still heavy, had started moving.
Mallam Shehu Mohammed identified broken-down trucks as the major cause of the gridlock, noting that the proactive intervention of the Corps helped to reduce its impact.
While calling on motorists to exercise patience and cooperate fully with personnel involved in the ongoing special operations, the FRSC boss commended the inter-agency collaboration that led to the removal of the obstruction.
He explained that his on-the-spot visit was aimed at providing leadership support, motivation and encouragement to officers and other personnel who had been managing the congestion for several days.
The Corps Marshal emphasized that the Kotonkarfi–Lokoja highway would remain free as long as drivers avoided lane indiscipline and reckless driving. He assured Nigerians that the Corps would continue to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies to ensure the safety of all road users.
The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, said adequate security measures had been put in place to guarantee the safety of officers and men deployed for the operation.
He noted that the visit of the FRSC Corps Marshal to the scene of the gridlock had boosted the morale of security personnel. Kankarofi expressed appreciation to the Corps Marshal for personally visiting the area from Abuja, describing the move as a strong demonstration of commitment to inter-agency cooperation.
CP Naziru, however, appealed to drivers of articulated vehicles to obey traffic rules and regulations and respect the rights of other road users.
The two-hour joint intervention patrol by the FRSC Corps Marshal and the Kogi State Commissioner of Police brought an end to the three-day gridlock along the corridor.
