The Udumaeze-in-Council, the apex traditional authority in Ohafia, has dissolved the leadership of a group of women who recently travelled to Umuahia to stage a protest against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

The Council stated that the women acted without the consent or approval of the community’s traditional leadership.

Following its deliberations, the Udumaeze-in-Council announced the immediate dissolution of the women’s leadership involved in the protest. It also imposed a fine of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (₦200,000) on them. The Council emphasized that no individual or group is permitted to speak or act on behalf of Ohafia without proper authorization.
The traditional rulers reiterated that Ohafia culture does not condone the public use of curses, threats, or inflammatory remarks, particularly in political matters. They warned that any future conduct capable of tarnishing the community’s image would attract stiffer sanctions.
Our correspondent gathered that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has facilitated several developmental projects in the area, including road rehabilitation, renovation of schools, skills acquisition initiatives, empowerment programmes for youths and women, as well as employment opportunities for constituents.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu holds the revered title of Ikenga of Ohafia, conferred on him by the community in recognition of his accomplishments and contributions to development. The title symbolizes the collective will of the Ohafia people and represents strength, achievement, and service.
While acknowledging the right of individuals to hold political views, the Council maintained that such views must be expressed with due regard for culture and tradition. It advised political actors to refrain from actions that could create division within the community.
The Udumaeze-in-Council reaffirmed its resolve to uphold the unity, dignity, and cultural heritage of Ohafia, stating that its leadership decisions will always prioritize the long-term peace and progress of the community.
