NNPC Boosts Healthcare with Renovated Wards at National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi
In line with its commitment to positively impact the lives of Nigerians, NNPC Limited has commissioned and handed over three rehabilitated 100-bed capacity wards to the management of the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi.
The intervention, executed by the NNPC Foundation Ltd./Gte., involved the rehabilitation and upgrade of Wards G, H, and J. The project included the installation of new beds and the introduction of a central medical gas system aimed at improving the quality of care in the hospital.
Other aspects of the rehabilitation covered replacement of roofing and ceilings, upgrades to electrical and mechanical systems, and installation of new vinyl flooring across the three wards.
Before the intervention, the wards were in poor condition, limiting their usability and restricting the hospital’s capacity for in-patient care.

Represented by the Chief Financial Officer, Adedapo Segun, he noted that the company takes pride in the rehabilitation project due to its significant benefits to society.
In her remarks, the Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Emmanuella Arukwe, stated that the intervention has strengthened a healthcare facility that has served Nigerians for decades.
“Beyond the immediate benefits, this effort reflects the role NNPC Foundation plays as the social impact arm of NNPC Limited. Our focus remains on practical interventions that improve lives and align with national healthcare priorities,” she said.
Providing further insight, the Medical Director of the hospital, Wakeel Lawal, disclosed that the hospital had earlier reached out to the Foundation due to the deteriorating condition of the wards. He expressed appreciation to NNPC Limited for responding to the request and delivering a transformation that has brought the wards up to international standards.
According to him, the intervention goes beyond rehabilitation, describing it as a renewal of hope.
The event was witnessed by the Executive Vice President, Business Services at NNPC Ltd., Sophia Mbakwe.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the commissioning and unveiling of a commemorative plaque by the representative of the GCEO, alongside the hospital’s Chief Medical Director and Rodiyallahu Alabi Yunusa, who represented the Oba of Somolu, Kazeem Bashua, as the Royal Father of the day.
