One of the prominent support groups for Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the nomination of Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as a minister representing Oyo State.

President Tinubu had, on Thursday, forwarded Tegbe’s name to the National Assembly as a ministerial nominee from Oyo State, following the resignation of Hon.
Adebayo Adelabu.
Adelabu stepped down from his role as Minister of Power a week earlier to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Friday and jointly signed by its National President, Mr. Gideon Oche Onazi, and Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Kudu, the Tinubu Consensus Network (TCN) described Tegbe’s nomination as “a step in the right direction.”
The group, which serves as a key think-tank among national support groups of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed confidence that Tegbe’s emergence as minister would significantly boost the party’s electoral fortunes in Oyo State.
“He has demonstrated his capacity in the past, even as a private citizen. Now, as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the votes from Oyo State will increase substantially in favour of our President and all APC candidates in the state,” the statement noted.
The TCN recalled Tegbe’s contributions during the last general elections, particularly in the Presidential and National Assembly polls, where he reportedly mobilised stakeholders and provided financial support that aided APC’s success, despite Oyo being under opposition control.
According to the group, its Oyo State Coordinator, Alhaji Wasiu Akanbi, documented Tegbe’s significant role in the party’s performance in 2023.
They further noted that Tegbe had earlier integrated his 2019 governorship campaign structure into the APC support framework, directing members to work collectively for the party’s overall success.
The group expressed appreciation to the President for recognising what it described as a widely respected and grassroots-supported figure.
Speaking on his competence, the TCN highlighted Tegbe’s extensive professional background, describing him as a seasoned technocrat with a strong record in both public and private sectors.
His experience spans multiple sectors, including housing and infrastructure, trade and investment, finance, skills development, information technology, telecommunications, and social security.
The statement also emphasised his over three decades of experience in consulting, fiscal policy, and institutional reform. Tegbe is a former Senior Partner at KPMG, where he led advisory services across Africa, focusing on governance, regulatory systems, and large-scale transformation initiatives.
Additionally, he has worked closely with institutions in Nigeria’s power sector, such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
Before his nomination, Tegbe served as Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinated development cooperation and investment relations between Nigeria and China. He also chairs Nigeria’s tax implementation committee, playing a key role in shaping economic policy.
His appointment comes at a crucial time for Nigeria’s economy, as persistent electricity challenges continue to affect growth, industrial productivity, and investor confidence.
