Education sector leaders to converge in Abuja for 2026 UTME cut-off decisions
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will hold its 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions on May 11, where minimum cut-off marks for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be determined.
In a statement issued on Sunday, JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed that the meeting will take place at the Body of Benchers Auditorium.
He explained that the annual meeting will bring together major stakeholders in the education sector to decide admission benchmarks, guidelines, and policies for the 2026/2027 academic session.
According to him, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, is expected to unveil key policy directions during the event.
“The policy meeting is a crucial platform where stakeholders agree on minimum UTME scores and other admission frameworks for tertiary institutions,” the statement noted, adding that it will also set the tone for the forthcoming admission process and emphasise strict compliance with established guidelines.
Participants expected at the meeting include vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, registrars, and admission officers, alongside representatives of regulatory agencies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Benjamin added that goodwill messages are also expected from agencies including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The event will also feature the sixth edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards (NATAP-M), aimed at promoting adherence to admission standards and improving the quality of tertiary education in the country.
