Journalists urged to use verified data to track school performance

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has said the newly inaugurated Digitalised Nigeria Education Management Information System (DNEMIS) will provide journalists with access to verified education data, strengthening evidence-based reporting and promoting public accountability.

Speaking at the 2026 Annual Education Summit organised by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN) in Abuja, Alausa said the platform offers detailed information on teacher-to-classroom ratios, pupil enrolment, school infrastructure and other education indicators down to the individual school level.
He urged journalists to make effective use of the platform to monitor education performance, report accurately on developments in the sector, and hold state governments and local authorities accountable for educational outcomes.
The minister noted that the Federal Ministry of Education’s ongoing reforms are increasingly guided by data rather than assumptions, adding that credible statistics have helped identify key challenges affecting access to education. He also encouraged journalists to go beyond reporting official statements by using the platform to highlight gaps that require government intervention.
