Senate Seeks FCTA Revenue Projections After Passing N2.285tn Budget

The Senate on Thursday approved the N2.285trillion 2026 budget for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Abuja.
Approval of the budget proposal followed the consideration of reports submitted by the Senate Committee on FCT.


Presenting the report, the Vice Chairman of the committee, Senator Austin Akobundu (Abia Central), disclosed that a total of N1.
741trillion, representing 76 per cent of the entire budget estimates, was allocated for capital expenditure, while N165.7billion was earmarked for personnel expenditure and N378.231billion for overhead costs.
According to Akobundu, the N1.741trillion set aside for capital projects represents 76.1 per cent of the total budget estimates, while the combined personnel and overhead costs amounting to N544.6billion account for 23 per cent of the budget.
He explained that the budget proposal focuses mainly on infrastructure development in the FCT as well as the provision of essential utilities and facilities for residents across the six Area Councils.
Most senators who contributed during debate on the report expressed satisfaction with the proposal and urged the Senate to grant it speedy passage, noting that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, was delivering on infrastructure projects and deserved support to do more.
Specifically, the Deputy President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau, commended the minister for what he described as impressive performance in the FCT.
“Mr President, the report presented to us for consideration and approval should be approved without hesitation.
“The FCT Minister is doing wonderful work in the territory through implementation of impactful budgets and development-oriented projects on a yearly basis.
“We need to commend him for practically demonstrating the willingness to continue building the FCT and urge him not to relent in making Abuja one of the best cities in the world,” he said.
After passing the appropriation bill for third reading, the Senate also requested the projected revenue profile for the fiscal year from the FCTA.
