TAAG Angola Airlines has announced the launch of a new direct air route between Angola and China, with inaugural commercial flights connecting Luanda and Guangzhou set to commence on June 23, 2026.

The airline unveiled the new service during an official ceremony in Luanda on Tuesday, attended by Angolan and Chinese government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, corporate clients, and aviation industry stakeholders.

The event also marked the commencement of ticket sales for the route, which will link Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport in Luanda with Guangzhou, one of China’s leading economic, industrial, and logistics centres.

According to the airline, the route will initially operate once a week, with flights departing Angola every Tuesday.

TAAG said the service will be operated with its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, recently added to the airline’s fleet to provide enhanced passenger comfort, improved fuel efficiency, and a modern long-haul travel experience.

The airline described the new route as a strategic milestone in its international expansion programme and a significant step toward strengthening connectivity between Africa and Asia.

Speaking at the launch, TAAG noted that Guangzhou remains one of Asia’s most important commercial hubs and that the new service will facilitate greater movement of passengers, cargo, and business opportunities between Angola and China.

China is one of Angola’s largest economic partners, with longstanding cooperation spanning infrastructure development, energy, trade, investment, and other strategic sectors. The two countries also maintain strong diplomatic ties and sizeable resident communities engaged in bilateral commercial activities.

TAAG said the direct air link is expected to boost trade, tourism, cultural exchanges, and institutional cooperation while supporting broader economic integration between both nations.

The airline further explained that the initiative aligns with its vision of building a more competitive intercontinental network and positioning Angola as a strategic aviation gateway connecting Africa with global markets.

Industry analysts believe the route could strengthen Luanda’s emergence as a regional transit hub, leveraging the capabilities of the newly developed Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport and supporting Angola’s ambitions to become a key player in international air transport.

With the launch of the Guangzhou service, TAAG reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Angola’s civil aviation sector, expanding international connectivity, and promoting the country’s growing role in global commerce and transportation.
