Senate: No Petition, No Probe on ‘Fake Agency’ Saga
The Senate on Tuesday, through its spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu (Ekiti South), said there is no petition before the Red Chamber to warrant its involvement in the controversy surrounding the alleged fake agency reportedly headed by a purported fake Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi Mathew.
Recall that in recent weeks, controversy has trailed the alleged non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), following a public dispute between the alleged Director-General and the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
While the Chief of Staff disowned the agency and its purported Director-General, the alleged DG insisted that the PFIPC is known to the Presidency through Gbajabiamila. He further alleged that the Chief of Staff collected N400 million from him for the appointment and demanded 48 per cent of the N1.3 billion appropriated for the agency in the 2026 budget.
Responding to journalists after Tuesday’s plenary, Adaramodu said the Senate has not received any petition from either of the feuding parties or any concerned Nigerian that would warrant legislative intervention or official comments on the matter.
He acknowledged media reports indicating that the alleged agency has a budget line in the 2026 Appropriation Act but maintained that the issue should be resolved by the Executive, where the controversy originated and resides.
He added that since the matter is already before the court, the Senate, in line with its rules, would not interfere.
“The allegations and counter-allegations over the fake agency and fake Director-General are entirely within the Executive and should be resolved there, specifically between the Office of the Chief of Staff and the alleged fake DG.
“The budget line being referred to was neither created nor inserted by the National Assembly, and it is not the responsibility of the Senate or the House of Representatives to conduct security checks on individuals appointed to head various MDAs.
“If the alleged fake DG were one of the presidential appointees screened and confirmed by the Senate, the controversy might have been perceived to have some connection with us.
“However, if a petition is submitted to the Senate by any of the parties involved or by any concerned Nigerian regarding the existence or otherwise of the agency or its Director-General, the matter will be looked into through the appropriate legislative process,” he said.
