Abuja Takes Centre Stage as Nigeria Hosts First Global Playback Theatre Festival

The Federal Capital Territory Social Development Secretariat (FCT-SDS) has commenced hosting the first-ever International Improvisation and Playback Theatre Festival in Nigeria, bringing together theatre practitioners, educators, and cultural advocates from different parts of the world.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Abuja, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Social Development Secretariat, Ibrahim Aminu, represented by the Director of Administration and Finance, Mrs. Nonye Obi, highlighted the importance of the festival in promoting the use of culture and theatre as tools for resilience-building, social justice, advocacy, communication, and sustainable development.
The Mandate Secretary commended the organisers, Access to Creative Play Foundation and its partners, for providing a platform that demonstrates the transformative power of the arts. He described the event as a remarkable convergence of creative minds that will project Nigeria’s cultural potential to the global community.
A major highlight of the festival was the conferment of indigenous Nigerian names on participants from the diaspora, alongside captivating cultural performances that celebrated Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and reflected the nation’s unity in diversity.
