A court in Finland has sentenced pro-Biafra activist Simon Ekpa to six years in prison after finding him guilty of terrorism-related offenses.

According to the ruling, Ekpa engaged in activities between 2021 and 2024 that sought to advance the independence of Nigeria’s Biafra region through unlawful means. The court established that he provided armed groups with weapons, explosives, and ammunition through his network. His actions were deemed participation in a terrorist organization and amounted to public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent.

Beyond terrorism charges, Ekpa was also convicted of aggravated tax fraud and violations of the Attorneys Act. Prosecutors presented evidence showing that he used social media and online platforms to communicate and incite violence in Nigeria’s southeast, linking his activities to the escalation of unrest in the region.

The judgment underscores the seriousness of the charges tied to Ekpa and his network, highlighting their impact on regional stability. The six-year sentence reflects both the gravity of the offenses and the weight of evidence presented against him.
