Nigeria, China Strengthen Diplomatic Ties as Both Nations Review New Cooperation Agreements

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, received the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nigeria, His Excellency Yu Dunhai, in Abuja for a high-level diplomatic meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and expanding ongoing strategic cooperation between both nations.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the statement, the meeting reviewed existing engagements between Nigeria and China while exploring new areas of partnership. Both sides exchanged views on regional and global developments, including security, migration, and economic cooperation.
Ambassador Yu commended Nigeria’s leadership in West Africa and aligned with concerns raised by Minister Tuggar regarding the misrepresentation of regional conflicts. He reaffirmed China’s position in supporting Nigeria’s sovereignty, national security, and long-term political stability.
The discussions also focused on expanding collaboration in critical development sectors, including industrialisation, rare earth exploration and processing, technology transfer, migration management, and capacity building.
Both officials further examined China’s proposed “process solutions” and emerging investment interests, with new opportunities identified in energy, manufacturing, and wider economic transformation sectors.
The meeting noted that ongoing bilateral agreements under review are pivotal to advancing shared development objectives and unlocking new economic opportunities.
The statement added that both governments reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation for the mutual benefit of citizens of Nigeria and China.
