A Chief Magistrate, Emmanuel Iyanna, has remanded a 33-year-old commercial driver, Ajayi Obe-Joseph, in Kuje Correctional Center for beating traffic light, using a phone while driving, and resisting arrest.

The FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC Command, Mr. Muta’a Chorie, who personally arrested the driver at Wuse Zone Four during his Friday morning routine supervision, stated that it took almost fifty minutes for the offender to comply with instructions after committing the offenses.

According to him, the corps will no longer tolerate flagrant disobedience to traffic rules, incessant assaults, and refusal to obey personnel after such grievous offenses.

The FCT FRSC boss noted that despite several sensitization campaigns, motor park rallies, and town hall meetings with major stakeholders in the transport sector, most commercial drivers on major routes in Abuja still engage in overloading, overspeeding, and total disregard for traffic rules and regulations.

He assured that the FRSC would carry out its duties within the ambit of the law to punish and prosecute traffic offenders across the six area councils of the FCT.
