Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu, on Monday, December 8, 2025, performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a modern onion storage facility in the state.

The initiative is being undertaken in partnership with several agencies to enhance agricultural output and minimize post-harvest losses.

Governor Aliyu underscored agriculture as the backbone of the state’s economy, pointing out that the majority of citizens rely on farming for their livelihood.

He reiterated his administration’s continuous support to farmers, recalling the free fertilizer distributions carried out in 2023 and 2024, as well as the fertilizer price reductions implemented in 2025.

He further highlighted the rehabilitation of the Lugu Dam in Wurno Local Government Area and the acquisition of modern agricultural machinery as part of the government’s efforts to boost productivity.

The new storage facility is projected to draw investment, generate employment opportunities, and improve the economic well-being of farmers across the state.
