Ugwumba Uche Nwosu Highlights Power, Pressure and Integrity as Pillars of Effective Leadership
Former Chief of Staff to the Imo State Government, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, has identified power, pressure and integrity as key ingredients for effective governance and sustainable leadership.
Mr. Nwosu made this known while delivering a keynote address at the 2025 Emerging Leaders Conference themed, “Navigating Power, Pressure, and Integrity in Governance.
”He described leadership in public service as a weighty responsibility, stressing that genuine leadership is not determined by titles, but by character, consistency, courage and a strong connection with the people, particularly the youth.
While speaking on power, Mr. Nwosu said it should be regarded as an instrument for development rather than personal privilege. He emphasised that power is a public trust which must be exercised with humility and accountability.
According to him, the true measure of a great leader is not the amount of power they possess, but how responsibly they deploy it in service to the people.
On the issue of pressure, he noted that political, social and economic pressures are unavoidable in leadership, adding that the ability to stay calm, principled and focused in difficult situations separates true leaders from mere managers.
Mr. Nwosu said leaders must be guided by facts and values, and should possess the courage to take tough decisions even when such choices are unpopular.

He further stressed that integrity is the bedrock of sustainable leadership, warning that leadership inevitably fails when integrity is compromised.
According to him, Africa’s growth and development depend largely on leaders who regard integrity as a moral duty rather than an optional virtue.
He also spoke on the establishment of the Ugwumba Leadership Centre, which he founded to bridge leadership gaps across Africa, with special focus on youths and women.
Mr. Nwosu explained that the Centre is committed to raising ethical, courageous and economically independent leaders through initiatives such as the Ugwumba Leadership Development Programme, the Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge and the SkillUp Programme.
He noted that these programmes have empowered numerous young Nigerians, producing entrepreneurs, innovators and community leaders.
Mr. Nwosu urged emerging leaders to uphold purpose, discipline and integrity as essential values for transforming Africa.
He commended the organisers of the Emerging Leaders Conference for their dedication to leadership development, expressing optimism that collective efforts would contribute to building a better future for the continent.
