Court Halts Ogun Govt’s Planned Demolition of Gbenga Daniel’s Properties
By Iyojo Ameh
A High Court in the Sagamu Judicial Division of Ogun State has issued an interim order stopping the state government from demolishing or interfering with properties belonging to former governor and current senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel.
Justice O.S. Oloyede granted the order ex parte on Tuesday after Daniel and his wife, Olufunke, filed an affidavit of urgency in suit number HCS/371/2025.
The judge restrained the government, its agents, and associates from enforcing a quit notice issued on August 8, or trespassing on the properties, pending the hearing of a motion on notice scheduled for August 19.The Ogun State Government had earlier warned Daniel to comply with its directives, alleging he failed to present planning permits and land titles for his buildings in Sagamu. Daniel, however, insists his properties were legally built before the 2022 Urban and Regional Planning Law took effect, accusing the government of political vendetta and disregard for due process.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s spokesman, Kayode Akinmade, dismissed the claims, saying Daniel was “not above the law” and accusing him of resorting to “cheap blackmail” instead of complying with verification requirements.
