In a bold move to eradicate crime in Edo State and its border communities, Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration has demolished illegal structures used as hideouts for suspected kidnappers along the Okpella–Okene Expressway.

The demolished hideouts, situated at the Obu/Oguda/Bua Cement Axis, were identified through intelligence as operational bases where abducted victims were allegedly held before ransom demands.

The axis had long been a source of fear for residents and motorists due to its reputation as a haven for hardened criminals. Previous attempts to clear the area had reportedly failed, making it a critical security challenge for the administration.
On December 20, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Edo State Government executed a strategic operation to dismantle the illegal structures, restoring safety and order to the community.
The demolition was overseen by the Edo State Development and Building Control Agency under Town Planning Officer Williams Ovenseri. During the operation, suspects reportedly attempted to obstruct security forces by blocking the expressway and using human shields. Security personnel, however, maintained control and completed the exercise without casualties.
The operation was coordinated by Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Benjamin Abang, DC Operations, Edo State Command, leading a combined team of police and Nigerian Army officers.
Following the demolition, the area, once notorious for kidnappings and attacks, is now relatively calm, with security agencies continuing surveillance to prevent a resurgence of criminal activity.
This success represents a major achievement for Governor Okpebholo’s administration, reaffirming its determination to combat crime and protect lives and property across Edo State.
