BREAKING: All Remaining Abducted Catholic School Students Regain Freedom
Relief swept through families on Sunday as the remaining abducted students of St. Mary Catholic School in the Shiroro community of Niger State were released and reunited with their loved ones.
A total of 130 students, who were held by bandits for weeks, regained their freedom following prolonged negotiations.
The Office of the National Security Adviser has officially confirmed the release. With this development, all 230 students abducted during the attack have now been freed, as 100 of them had earlier been released. Security sources disclosed that efforts by security agencies remained relentless after the students were abducted in what was described as a deeply distressing and embarrassing incident.
The Citypost had earlier reported that the bandits invaded the school and abducted the students without resistance from security operatives. Since the incident, accusations and counter-accusations have persisted between the Niger State Government and the school’s management.
Authorities attributed the successful release to sustained security pressure and coordinated actions by relevant agencies.
Meanwhile, stakeholders have renewed calls for enhanced protection of schools and more decisive measures to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.
As of the time of filing this report, it could not be immediately confirmed whether ransom was paid, although the abductors had previously demanded payment before agreeing to release the students.
