The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt in the Byazhin area of Abuja, recovering an AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and seven rounds of live ammunition.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit acted on credible intelligence and responded to reports that suspected kidnappers were attempting to gain entry into a residence near Paze Hills in the early hours of yesterday.

The statement said the suspects opened fire upon sighting the police team, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire that lasted for more than 30 minutes.
It added that the operatives successfully repelled the attackers, forcing them to flee into nearby bushes with suspected gunshot wounds and preventing the planned abduction.
According to the statement, the intended victims, Mr. Samson and his wife, were rescued unharmed. They were subsequently treated for trauma-related distress at General Hospital, Gwarinpa, and placed under protective custody.
The statement further noted that the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, commended the officers for their courage and professionalism, while directing increased surveillance in the area to forestall further criminal activities.
