The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to intensify its clampdown on traffic offenders and address the increasing presence of destitute individuals across the territory.
To ensure the success of the initiative, the FCT Minister, Dr. Nyesom Wike, has directed relevant security agencies to fully enforce the operation, stressing that the activities of these groups constitute a threat to public safety.
Speaking after a security meeting at Life Camp, Abuja, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, declared that the administration would no longer tolerate traffic violations or the proliferation of street beggars disrupting the capital’s orderliness.
He disclosed that over 675 vehicles were impounded within one month for various traffic-related offenses such as lack of proper documentation, use of tinted windows without authorization, and operating unauthorized transport services, including unregistered ride-hailing vehicles.
CP Adewale further revealed that no fewer than 273 destitute persons were arrested and moved to Bwari, where they are currently being profiled and provided temporary care before being relocated to their respective states of origin.
