FG Hands Over Four Hybrid PCNG Buses to FCTA
By our Correspondent
The Federal Government, through the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), has donated four 50-seater hybrid buses to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The buses, capable of running on both Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and diesel (AGO), are designed to guarantee uninterrupted operations even when CNG supply is unavailable.
Presenting the vehicles to the FCT Minister in Abuja, the Chief Executive Officer and Programme Director of PCNGi, Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi, reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to delivering cheaper, safer, and more reliable transportation for Nigerians.
He described the FCT Minister as “one of the biggest supporters of the CNG initiative,” adding that the buses would serve as “foundation assets” for new city terminals. Oluwagbemi explained that while the FCTA would handle the operation and maintenance of the buses, PCNGi would track their use and impact to ensure optimal service delivery.
Highlighting Abuja’s investment in roads and bus terminals, he noted:
> “We felt the FCT should be a major beneficiary. In the next two to three years, I look forward to an Abuja where even those with private cars would choose to leave them at home and use public buses, as is the case in developed countries.”
He concluded by formally handing over the keys, stating that the donation was to the glory of God, for the service of humanity, and for the benefit of FCT residents.
Receiving the buses on behalf of the Minister, the Mandate Secretary for Transport, Mr. Chinedu Elechi, expressed gratitude to the President, describing the gesture as a boost to the capital’s transport system.
Elechi noted that public transport plays a vital role for residents who cannot afford private vehicles and for those who choose public options despite owning cars.
> “The Honourable Minister has built roads, bridges, and modern bus terminals. We recently commissioned two at Mabushi and Kugbo. These buses will be very useful, and more are on the way,” he said.
He thanked the President for the initiative and commended PCNGi for its dedication.
The donation aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and aims to strengthen public transportation in the FCT.
