Two American Airlines aircraft collided on the runway at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, clipping their wings while taxiing.

The incident, which occurred at about 12:45 p.

m., involved American Airlines Flight 5490 and Flight 4522. Reports confirmed that no passengers were injured, and all were safely disembarked.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), an investigation into the collision is underway. The two aircraft had been scheduled to depart for Paris and Gibraltar respectively.

Flight operations at the airport were briefly suspended for a safety inspection, which revealed only minor damage to the planes, before services resumed.

Passenger Tynisha Chaudhry, who was on the Gibraltar-bound flight with her partner, likened the collision to a car crash. “We felt the whole plane shudder – it was a massive hit,” she said. The 21-year-old added that numerous fire engines and safety crews responded to the scene as passengers remained onboard during inspections.

While the overall mood among passengers was calm, Chaudhry noted that some parents and children became tense before everyone was allowed to return to the terminal.
