The Federal Government has reaffirmed its dedication to achieving universal access to clean water and sanitation across the country.

Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Professor Joseph Utsev, made this known at a forum in Makurdi, Benue State, where he highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including dam construction and irrigation schemes, many of which are being executed through public-private partnerships.

He noted that under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, significant progress has been achieved through initiatives such as the World Bank-supported SURWASH, PEWASH, and the Clean Nigeria Campaign, which targets the elimination of open defecation by 2030.

The Minister urged participants to use the platform to exchange ideas, influence policy, and foster partnerships for a water-secure Nigeria.

In a goodwill message, Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, pledged the state’s support for federal water programmes, stressing that access to clean water is a fundamental human right.

Also speaking, the National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Water Engineers, Joshua Titus-Sanga, called for innovative strategies to address the increasing demand for urban water supply.
