Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has commended President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government for their growing investment in Nigeria’s human capital development through scholarships and capacity-building programs.

Kalu, who has consistently facilitated foreign training opportunities for Nigerians—particularly his constituents in Abia North—announced the departure of the 5th batch of scholars to China on Tuesday, September 16.

The group is scheduled to begin a senior management seminar on Marine Biodiversity Conservation for Developing Countries at the Fujian Institute of Oceanography in Beijing.

Speaking during a visit by grateful constituents who had benefitted from previous programs, the Senator said his partnership with China had created “a bridge to national transformation.”

“These programs and scholarships represent more than academic training — they symbolize innovation, leadership, hope, and the power of partnership,” Kalu stated. “Our students will return prepared to strengthen Nigeria through global knowledge.”

He also extended appreciation to the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, for his role in strengthening bilateral ties, stressing that China’s commitment to Nigeria was “a vote of confidence” in the country’s youth and capacity for development.
