Former Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Mike Omeri, has expressed deep concern over the collapse of a bridge and culvert in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

In a statement personally signed and made available to journalists on Wednesday, Dr. Omeri commiserated with the community and residents affected by the disaster, which has cut them off from the rest of the state.

He attributed the collapse of the bridge to neglect and government insensitivity, stressing that the incident could have been avoided if authorities had been more responsive to the people’s plight.

“This tragedy has not only displaced families but also disrupted the livelihoods of countless individuals. I share in the grief and suffering of all those affected by this catastrophe,” Omeri stated.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the traditional rulers, opinion leaders, stakeholders, and the entire people of Keana, especially those who have lost their means of livelihood due to lack of access roads for evacuating their farm produce. I stand with the families who have been displaced and deeply empathize with their pain and distress during this trying time.”

Acknowledging the magnitude of the disaster, Omeri urged the Nasarawa State Government and the Governor to urgently deploy the necessary measures to address the devastating impact of the bridge collapse and alleviate the hardship faced by residents.

While noting the losses incurred, he expressed confidence in the strength and resilience of the Keana people, which he said had been demonstrated over the years.

“Do not doubt that with assistance, your hardship is only temporary, and you will surely overcome this tragedy,” he assured.
