Focus on Economy, Security Over Opposition, ADC Tells Tinubu

The National Leader of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chike Okogwu, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to focus on tackling Nigeria’s economic and security challenges instead of engaging in political battles with the opposition.
Dr. Okogwu made the appeal in a statement while reacting to President Tinubu’s recent remarks that “everything is fair in politics” and his pledge to “wrestle the opposition to the ground.”
He said democracy should be anchored on competition of ideas, competence and vision, rather than hostility towards political opponents.
According to him, more than three years into the current administration, Nigeria’s major concerns remain inflation, hunger, unemployment, insecurity, the rising cost of living, the weakening naira and declining investor confidence.
The ADC chieftain noted that millions of Nigerians, particularly Persons with Disabilities, continue to experience severe economic hardship and have limited access to healthcare, education, transportation, employment and other essential public services despite the provisions of the Disability Act.
He also expressed concern over what he described as the slow implementation of disability rights legislation, stressing that many public institutions and infrastructure remain inaccessible to persons living with disabilities.
Dr. Okogwu maintained that disability inclusion should be treated as a constitutional right and a critical component of national development rather than an afterthought.
He stated that the African Democratic Congress remains committed to promoting inclusive governance through the full implementation of disability rights laws, improved access to public infrastructure, healthcare, education, transportation, employment opportunities, entrepreneurship support and greater political participation for Persons with Disabilities.
The ADC National Leader of Persons with Disabilities further urged President Tinubu to prioritise addressing inflation, insecurity, unemployment, corruption and other socio-economic challenges confronting Nigerians instead of focusing on political opposition.
He added that history remembers leaders for improving the lives of their citizens, strengthening democratic institutions and fostering national unity, rather than defeating political opponents.
