FORMER PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE PROF. UGWU, HAILS HER EXEMPLARY VIRTUES

The former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has paid glowing tribute to the late Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Joy Ogazi Ugwu, describing her as a solution provider and an exceptional personality.

In a statement delivered on his behalf by Prof. John Kennedy Opara at a Night of Solemn Tribute organized by friends and close associates of the late Prof. Ugwu at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Former President Jonathan commended the late diplomat’s outstanding service to the nation.

“Ambassador Joy meant a lot; she was a bridge builder,” Prof. Opara quoted Former President Jonathan as saying. “Her invaluable contributions to nation building will remain indelible in the sands of time.”

Prof. Ugwu, who passed away recently, was born on August 22, 1946, in Asaba, Delta State. She served as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, where she had the privilege of chairing the Security Council twice, demonstrating exceptional leadership. She also served as the Director General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs and later as Minister of Foreign Affairs, distinguishing herself as a trailblazer in Nigerian diplomacy.

Former President Jonathan extended his condolences to the family of the late diplomat, acknowledging her devoted and exemplary service to the country.
