The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, around the Sinoma area near Sagamu in Ogun State, involving a Lexus Jeep reportedly conveying world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, and a stationary truck.

According to preliminary information from the FRSC Ogun Sector Command, the crash occurred at about 12:00 noon and was immediately reported to the Corps.

FRSC stated that its operatives arrived at the scene within three minutes of the notification, enabling prompt rescue operations, evacuation of victims, effective traffic management, and the prevention of secondary crashes.
The incident involved two vehicles: a black Lexus Jeep with registration number KRD 850 HN (private) and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck with an unidentified registration number.

A total of five adult males were involved in the crash. The FRSC disclosed that two persons lost their lives, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Anthony Joshua was also said to have sustained minor injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Lexus Jeep, which was suspected to have been travelling above the legally approved speed limit on the corridor, lost control while attempting an overtaking manoeuvre and subsequently collided with the stationary truck parked by the roadside.
The report identified excessive speed and wrongful overtaking as the primary causes of the crash, noting that both are serious traffic offences and among the leading causes of fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways.
Consequently, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, on behalf of the management and staff of the FRSC, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims, including Anthony Joshua, a speedy recovery.
The FRSC boss further cautioned motorists against dangerous overtaking, excessive speeding, and disregard for traffic rules, especially on high-speed routes such as the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
He urged road users to remain patient, maintain lane discipline, and place safety above haste, particularly during the festive travel period.
Mallam Shehu Mohammed reaffirmed that the Corps remains committed to ensuring safer roads through prompt emergency response and sustained public enlightenment aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and fatalities nationwide.
