FRSC Rolls Out Nationwide Special Patrol to Tackle Road Crashes

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has directed its 12 Zonal Commands across the country to commence a Special Intervention Patrol aimed at reducing road crashes and enforcing compliance with traffic safety regulations.

The nationwide operation, scheduled to begin on Monday, will be carried out simultaneously in all zones, with each command implementing strategies designed to address the unique road safety challenges within its jurisdiction.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, said the initiative is intended to achieve a measurable reduction in road accidents by targeting traffic offences that continue to result in avoidable deaths and injuries on Nigerian roads.
He explained that the operation marks a shift from conventional enforcement to intelligence-driven interventions focused on dangerous driving behaviours. According to him, the exercise will involve the deployment of personnel to highways, motor parks, loading points and other critical locations. It will also feature public enlightenment campaigns, stakeholder engagement and close collaboration with other security agencies to ensure effective enforcement and prompt emergency response.
The Corps Marshal warned motorists, commercial vehicle operators and fleet owners to comply strictly with all traffic regulations, stressing that violators would face firm enforcement. He, however, assured Nigerians that the operation is not meant to punish law-abiding road users but to safeguard lives and property.
He urged all road users to cooperate with patrol teams by obeying traffic rules and avoiding unsafe practices such as overloading, mixed loading and other dangerous behaviours.
Shehu Mohammed announced that from the 20th of the month, all 12 Zonal Commands would simultaneously launch specially designed operations tailored to their respective jurisdictions. These include Operation Fushin Zuma (Anger of the Bee) in Kaduna, Operation Ride Safe in Bauchi, Operation Shark Smile in Port Harcourt, Operation ABO (Safe Passage) in Lagos, Operation Sauka Lafia in Abuja, Operation Kasolayo in Ilorin, Operation Kwushi Ihe Mberede in Enugu, Operation Sanity in Osogbo, Operation Total Compliance in Benin, Operation Harbin Kunama (Scorpion Sting) in Yola, Operation Hadarin Kalangu in Jos and Operation Daidaita Loading in Zone 10.
According to the Corps Marshal, the coordinated intervention demonstrates the Corps’ determination to tackle specific traffic violations through intelligence-led enforcement, extensive public awareness campaigns, enhanced operational visibility, stakeholder engagement and strategic collaboration with sister security agencies, with the ultimate goal of reducing road crashes, saving lives and making Nigerian roads safer for all law-abiding users.
