A Nigerian woman residing abroad was shocked to discover that her gateman allegedly sold her house in Lekki, Lagos, without her knowledge.

The incident was revealed by a property lawyer on TikTok, identified as @theomonilelawyer, who explained that the property owner rarely visits Nigeria.

After purchasing the house, she retained the gateman, originally assigned by the developer, to oversee the property.
She even sent him monthly upkeep allowances, unaware that he had secretly made photocopies of the title documents while the house was still under the developer’s care.

According to the lawyer, the gateman conspired with a real estate developer to forge the documents. Together, they cloned the Governor’s Consent, altered the seller’s details, and sold the property for ₦175 million to an unsuspecting buyer. Out of the proceeds, the gateman received ₦15 million as his share.

The owner only discovered the fraud upon returning to Nigeria and finding someone else occupying the house. Investigations later revealed that the gateman fled to Benue State, where he was tracked down by the police and confessed. The case is now in court, with the original owner and the buyer locked in a legal battle, while the prime suspect has gone into hiding.

Reacting to the story, social media users shared mixed opinions:

@Kay_Kay questioned how the buyer failed to verify the documents before purchase.

@brotherbiola1 argued that since the documents were forged, the woman remains the rightful owner.

Rule World emphasized the importance of CCTV and solar-powered security systems to monitor property and deter such incidents.

The lawyer further revealed that the fraudulent transaction occurred in Lagos. Shockingly, the gateman even continued living in the property for four months after the illegal sale before vacating it.
