The House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on the power sector has commenced preparations to investigate Nigeria’s power sector reforms and expenditures from 2007 to 2024.

The committee is led by its chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Almustapha Aliyu—an architect and second-term lawmaker representing Wurno/Rabah Federal Constituency in Sokoto State.

Mandated by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the committee is charged with conducting a comprehensive audit of the power sector, tracing the flow of funds, assessing policy implementation, and evaluating the effectiveness of executed projects. Their goal is to uncover inefficiencies, waste, or corruption that may have hindered progress, and to recommend practical solutions to improve electricity supply.

Arc. Ibrahim emphasized this during a briefing with the House of Representatives Press Corps at the media centre on Thursday. He noted that the committee’s core objective, as directed by the Speaker, is to ensure reliable power delivery, stressing that “electricity is the lifeblood of modern civilization. No nation attains sustainable progress without reliable power supply.”

The chairman further assured that he and other committee members will engage stakeholders—including government agencies, private operators, and civil society groups—to guarantee transparency throughout the process.
