How a Collapsed Business Arrangement Triggered My Dispute With Doris Ogala — Chris Okafor

Pastor Chris Okafor has narrated how his ongoing dispute with actress Doris Ogala originated, explaining that it began as a failed business deal before escalating into what he described as a series of false accusations and sustained online attacks.
Addressing journalists through his legal representatives at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, the Lagos-based cleric maintained that his issues with Ogala were neither romantic nor criminal in nature, but arose from a business relationship that collapsed towards the end of 2024.
His lawyer, Ife Ajayi, Lead Partner at Sovereignty LP, said Okafor withdrew from a business arrangement involving Ogala and another party after determining that its objectives were no longer attainable.
According to Ajayi, the disagreement soon left the negotiating table and spilled onto social media.
He explained that Ogala initially took to the internet claiming that Pastor Okafor owed her ₦45 million, an allegation he said was baseless. When that claim failed to gain public support, Ajayi noted, it allegedly shifted into assertions of a romantic involvement, financial demands, and eventually more serious allegations bordering on criminal conduct.
“Based on our client’s account and the documentation available to us, this matter started purely as a business dispute. It only morphed into multiple allegations after he exited the arrangement,” Ajayi stated.
He further alleged that the online attacks intensified in December 2025, shortly before Pastor Okafor’s wedding, when Ogala was said to have questioned his right to marry and demanded compensation—first in cash and later in the form of a house.
Ajayi revealed that Ogala had previously been arrested and arraigned on charges related to cyberstalking, cyberbullying and threats connected to earlier online actions involving Pastor Okafor.
He said the matter was settled out of court and the agreement was adopted by the court, with Ogala allegedly receiving an agreed sum and committing not to contact or reference Pastor Okafor again.
“At no point during those proceedings were allegations of rape, sexual assault or murder raised. Those claims only emerged after the settlement,” Ajayi said.
According to him, fresh petitions were later submitted to the Nigeria Police following renewed online posts, leading to Ogala’s arrest and interrogation shortly before Christmas in 2025.
Ajayi said that during questioning, she reportedly denied some of the more serious allegations attributed to her online and was granted administrative bail on medical grounds, alongside warnings against making further unsubstantiated publications.
Despite this, he alleged that new narratives continued to surface on social media, including claims of sexual offences and the presentation of individuals as supposed victims.
Ajayi accused social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, as well as some online platforms, of amplifying the allegations without verification, urging them to submit any evidence in their possession to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.
“If there is any genuine allegation of rape, murder or abuse, the law clearly states where such matters should be reported,” he said.
The lawyer added that Pastor Okafor has honoured police invitations, submitted what he described as “irrefutable evidence” in his defence, and was released after responding to inquiries at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti.
“There was never a case of evading arrest,” Ajayi stressed.
He disclosed that formal criminal complaints have now been filed against individuals accused of spreading false and damaging information, while urging the public to allow police investigations to proceed without interference.
Ajayi also expressed concern that the cleric, his wife and family have received threats since the controversy escalated.
“This matter started, from our client’s point of view, as a business disagreement. It has since been twisted into something entirely different,” he said, adding that the legal team would pursue all lawful remedies against what it described as blackmail, cyberbullying and defamation.
