How Abducted Doctor Identified and Foiled His Kidnappers at Auchi Hospital
Luck finally ran out on two notorious kidnappers who had earlier abducted Dr. Abu Babatunde and his late brother in Auchi, Edo State, after they unknowingly walked into the very hospital where their victim works to seek medical care for their sick child.
The suspects reportedly arrived at the hospital with their ailing baby and were attended to by Dr.
Forefront News gathered that Dr. Babatunde immediately recognised the suspects upon their arrival but remained composed. He professionally treated their sick child and discreetly raised the alarm, leading to the swift arrest of the kidnappers by security operatives.
Dr. Babatunde and his younger brother, who was also a medical doctor, were abducted on January 1, 2026, along City Pride Road in the Igbira Camp area of Auchi. During the abduction, the kidnappers demanded a ₦200 million ransom. While negotiations were ongoing, the younger brother was brutally killed in captivity.
After spending 13 days in the kidnappers’ den, Dr. Babatunde eventually regained his freedom following the payment of a substantial ransom.
As of the time of filing this report, police authorities are yet to release an official statement confirming the arrest of the suspects or providing further details on the incident.
