INEC Publishes Details of Governorship Candidates for 2025 Anambra Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal details of candidates vying for the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

This follows the successful conclusion of party primaries and the submission of nomination forms by sixteen political parties through INEC’s dedicated portal. The submission window closed at exactly 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2025, when the portal automatically shut down.

In line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and item 4 of the Commission’s Timetable and Schedule of Activities, INEC has now displayed the personal particulars of each candidate and their running mate. These details, captured in Form EC9, include academic credentials and other supporting documents submitted by the candidates.

The documents are available for public inspection at the INEC State Headquarters in Awka and all 21 local government offices across Anambra State.

In a statement released on Saturday and signed by Sam Olumekun, mni, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, the Commission urged the public to scrutinize the documents. INEC also advised that any aspirant who participated in their party’s primaries and has reasonable grounds to believe that a candidate submitted false information can seek legal redress by approaching a Federal High Court, as provided under Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022.

INEC further announced that the final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025. This date, which is at least 150 days before the election, is in line with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act and corresponds to item 7 on the Commission’s official election timetable.

The Anambra State Governorship Election will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
