Kaduna, Galileo Scientific Ltd Sign Landmark MoU to Advance Mining and Local Mineral Processing
Kaduna State has taken a decisive step toward harnessing its vast mineral resources as the Kaduna Mining Development Company (KMDC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Galileo Scientific Ltd, a New York–based exploration, mining, and processing firm promoted by Diasporan Nigerian, Dr. Mathew O. Idoni.
The agreement focuses on accelerating the mining and local processing of key minerals, including lithium-ion, gold, copper, tantalite, and manganese, abundant within Kaduna’s rich pegmatite belts. Under the deal, Galileo Scientific will establish operations in the state, ensuring minerals are processed for both domestic use and export to its international chemical conversion facilities and joint ventures.
Governor Uba Sani, in his remarks, highlighted that the partnership aligns with KMDC’s mandate to transform Kaduna’s mineral wealth into sustainable prosperity. He noted that with KMDC licensing its assets to Galileo, the initiative will boost industrialization, attract fresh investments, and create quality jobs for residents.
Dr. Idoni described the MoU as a “forward-looking partnership” that complements Nigeria’s drive to emerge as Africa’s hub for mineral processing. He added that Nigerians in the Diaspora remain eager to invest in the country when provided with the right frameworks.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Nigeria’s Consul General in New York, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda, who played a key role in facilitating the partnership as part of several forward-looking initiatives by the Nigerian Consulate.
This development reinforces Kaduna’s growing reputation as a hub for mining innovation, economic diversification, and community development, while positioning the state as a strategic player in the global minerals value chain.
