‘My father failed in my upbringing and is now exploiting me’ – Singer Portable lashes out
Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has accused his father of neglect, financial exploitation and betrayal, following a series of emotional statements that have stirred widespread reactions online.
In a viral video, the street-pop artiste alleged that his father was largely absent during his upbringing and failed to offer him the support expected of a parent.
“My daddy is a ‘Bovita daddy.’ When there is trouble or a police case, my daddy cannot go to the police station to help his son, but he can collect phone numbers of my baby mamas,” Portable said.
He claimed that his father’s involvement in his life has been more damaging than beneficial, insisting that he suffered neglect while growing up.
“When you are with me, my life scatters. My life is better when you are not with me. You didn’t take care of me. You didn’t send me to school and you didn’t pay for me to learn tailoring. You can never inherit me,” he stated.
Portable further accused his father of persistently demanding money from him despite allegedly failing to take responsibility for his upbringing.
“I’m not the only child you gave birth to, yet you are always on my neck collecting money from me. You are like Mohbad’s father, always wearing my shoes and clothes. I won’t allow you to do to me what they did to Mohbad,” he said.
He also alleged that his father distanced himself during a difficult period in his life following his mother’s death.
“When my mother died, you said it was none of your business. I buried my mother by myself,” the singer added.
Portable went on to recount alleged financial misconduct by his father during a house construction project, claiming that costs were deliberately inflated.
“When I wanted to build a house and asked him to handle it, he kept cheating me. Blocks that cost N300,000, he would tell me N900,000,” he alleged.
According to the singer, his father only showed renewed interest in him after he became successful in the music industry.
“You were in Abuja doing your things, but when I blew, you came to Lagos — you who don’t usually come to Lagos,” he said.
“My father who didn’t pay my school fees is now asking me for money to pay another child’s school fees. Please leave me alone. I am poisonous; you can’t kill me,” Portable declared.
Known for his outspoken and controversial nature, Portable has often made headlines for public outbursts and family-related disputes.
