Nasarawa Voters Urge INEC to Address Hitches in Ongoing Continuous Voter Registration

Electorates in Nasarawa State have appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deploy more personnel and functional machines to ensure a smooth process in the ongoing Continuous Voter Physical Registration exercise.

Findings by our Correspondent from INEC offices across some local government areas revealed that the exercise, which began on Monday, August 25, 2025, has faced challenges such as late arrival of officials, technical glitches, and frequent machine breakdowns.

This is despite INEC’s earlier sensitisation efforts through traditional rulers, community leaders, faith-based organisations, and the media to encourage residents’ participation. Turnout has remained low in many centres.

At the INEC offices in Nasarawa Eggon, Doma, and Lafia Local Government Areas, only a few electorates were seen as early as 7:30 a.m. In Nasarawa Eggon, a visually impaired voter, Mr. Auta Alaku, lamented spending over two hours without receiving help to correct errors on his voter card. Another voter also appealed for additional machines to speed up the process.

In Doma, elderly residents Baba Omaku and Mr. Oga Haruna expressed disappointment, saying that despite arriving early, registration did not commence due to repeated system failures.

In Lafia, Mr. Moses Aku and Mallam Hassan Rabiu urged INEC to restore public confidence, stressing that better arrangements should have been made considering the experiences of past registration exercises.

Reacting to the complaints, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Nasarawa State, Dr. Shehu Elwahab, appealed for calm and assured that technical challenges were being addressed. He further called on stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns to boost participation.

As the exercise enters its second day, electorates across Nasarawa State are demanding swift improvements to guarantee a credible and inclusive electoral process.
