NCAA Seeks EFCC Partnership to Combat Aviation Sector Fraud
The Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to strengthen collaboration by assisting in tackling economic and financial crimes, as well as other corrupt practices affecting the aviation industry.
Captain Najomo made the appeal in Abuja when he led a delegation of his management team on a courtesy visit to the EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede.
He noted that fraudulent activities within the aviation sector pose serious risks to NCAA’s safety oversight and operational transparency. According to him, EFCC’s intervention is crucial in addressing financial risks that directly affect aviation safety, economic regulation, and investor confidence.
The NCAA boss further identified high-value transactions—such as aircraft purchases, leasing arrangements, foreign maintenance contracts, and procurement of safety infrastructure—as areas vulnerable to fraud and money laundering.
In his response, Mr. Olukoyede welcomed the visit and assured the EFCC’s commitment to supporting efforts toward sanitising the aviation industry.
He urged NCAA to intensify its surveillance of private airport terminals, which he described as hotspots for illicit financial activities, and pledged that the Commission would work closely with the Authority to tackle issues such as non-remittance by airlines, illicit financial flows, and fraudulent ticketing systems.
