NCC, NIPR Deepen Partnership for Telecom Growth
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and other key stakeholders to sustain the growth, resilience and competitiveness of Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.

Dr. Maida said the Commission would continue to work closely with professional bodies and strategic partners to promote public awareness, responsible communication and effective stakeholder engagement on issues affecting the telecommunications sector.
He noted that collaboration with institutions such as the NIPR has become increasingly important as the Commission implements regulatory initiatives aimed at improving service delivery, strengthening consumer protection and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the telecom industry.
According to him, the NCC remains committed to keeping Nigerians well-informed about its policies and regulatory interventions through sustained public enlightenment campaigns and strategic communication.
The NCC boss also congratulated the NIPR on securing the hosting rights for the 2026 World Public Relations Forum, describing the achievement as a significant milestone for both Nigeria and the public relations profession.
He said the successful bid reflects the value of perseverance, effective storytelling and strategic communication in projecting Nigeria positively to the global community.
“It tells a compelling story of perseverance, strategic communication and the importance of owning the narrative. It also reflects our ability to convincingly demonstrate to the Global Alliance and other stakeholders why Nigeria deserves the opportunity to host the forum,” he said.
Dr. Maida further urged the institute to leverage the upcoming African Telecoms Union (ATU) Conference of Plenipotentiaries, scheduled to hold in Nigeria in July 2026, to further showcase the country’s positive image before the international community.
Speaking on the Commission’s ongoing regulatory efforts, he said the NCC is intensifying education, sensitisation and public awareness campaigns on major initiatives designed to strengthen accountability and improve the telecommunications sector.
These initiatives include the protection of Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII), promotion of efficient data usage, implementation of the simplified tariff directive for mobile network operators, deployment of the public coverage map and measures to foster healthy competition within the industry.
Dr. Maida noted that the reforms introduced in the sector, though challenging, are already yielding positive results by restoring investor confidence and attracting fresh investments.
He explained that the growing level of investment in the industry demonstrates increasing confidence in the Federal Government’s reforms and the regulatory framework provided by the NCC.
“Through the efforts we have made to stabilise the sector, we have restored investor confidence. The investments we are witnessing today are not just about sustaining operations but about expanding the industry. It is a clear indication that investors believe in the sector, the government’s reforms, the regulator and the opportunities available in the Nigerian market,” he said.
Earlier, the National President of the NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, commended the Commission for its commitment to stakeholder engagement and collaboration, describing the NCC as a vital institution driving Nigeria’s digital economy.
He also reaffirmed the institute’s readiness to partner with the Commission in promoting responsible communication, reputation management and public awareness of the NCC’s regulatory initiatives.
