NCPC Eyes Greece to Expand Pilgrimage Opportunities for Nigerians

The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) is exploring holy and historical sites in Greece as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral collaboration and expand pilgrimage opportunities for Nigerian Christians.
This is contained in a statement by the Director of Media and Public Relations of the Commission, Celestine Toruka, and made available to journalists in Abuja.
The initiative is in line with the Commission’s mandate as enshrined in the NCPC Act of 2007, which empowers it to explore other holy sites around the world for the spiritual benefit of Nigerian pilgrims.
As part of the initiative, the Executive Secretary of NCPC, Bishop Prof. Stephen Adegbite, last week undertook an exploration visit to Hydra Island in Greece. The island is renowned for its unique, car-free environment, where the movement of goods and persons is carried out primarily with donkeys and horses.
During the visit, Bishop Adegbite held strategic meetings with pilgrimage stakeholders on the island and was received in audience by the Mayor of Hydra Island, Mr. George Koukoudakis.
Speaking on the visit, Bishop Adegbite noted that Greece is globally recognised for its rich Christian heritage, historical sites, hospitality and tourism. He said the exploration would open new opportunities for faith-based tourism and deepen the spiritual experiences of Nigerian pilgrims.
The renewed engagement between the NCPC and Greece marks a significant milestone in the Commission’s efforts to diversify pilgrimage destinations and strengthen international partnerships in the interest of Nigerian pilgrims.
